Ms. Freeland’s Philosophy of Teaching
Growing up I aspired to become a teacher from the moment I stepped into my kindergarten classroom. My role models were always teachers and I longed to be able to inspire lives the way my educators inspired my own. As I grew into high school, I found myself wondering where my road was headed and what kind of transportation I needed to get there. I came into college unsure of my major in Mass Communications and discovered after two years that it was not my true calling. I decided to give my childhood dream to become a teacher another chance and have been on that road ever since.
Teaching, to me, is probably the most important profession in our country today, but definitely does not get the recognition it deserves. I feel that teachers help mold our citizens into what kind of people they are and what kind of decisions they make in their own lives. Teachers have the ability to completely change a child’s life in a complete second, while holding so many others in their hands at the same time. Teaching is a difficult job that requires a lot of work in and outside of the classroom and if it wasn’t for teachers, our educational system would crumble.
I truly believe teaching is one of the only professions where the rewards far outweigh the negatives. Knowing I have the power to influence the daily life, and overall outlook on someone’s entire life, makes all of the struggles, long hours, hard work, dedication and sweat I have poured into and experienced in this profession completely worth it. I believe teachers should work hard at creating the most creative, inspiring, encouraging, interactive lessons for students so that they not only learn inside your classroom walls, but so they are inspired to research and discover on their own when they leave your room. This is my philosophy; my goal for each and every day I step into this school. Every student is an individual and deserves to learn in which ever way will be most beneficial to their specific needs. I find my creativity constantly being used and challenged which makes each day enjoyable, entertaining, and so different than any of the days before it. Being able to do something completely different each and every day, and have what I do have an impact on the lives of so many students, are without a doubt the main and most important reasons why I am an educator today.
